MotoTec Dirt Bike Size by Age: A Parent's Sizing Chart (2026)

Posted by LockTech & Gear on

Picking the right dirt bike for a child comes down to two things: matching power to their age and ability, and making sure they can touch the ground comfortably. Too much bike is unsafe; too little gets outgrown fast. This chart maps MotoTec's lineup to age and experience so you can choose with confidence.

LockTech & Gear is an authorized MotoTec dealer — every bike ships free with full warranty.

Quick sizing chart

Age Experience Recommended MotoTec Type

6–9 Beginner 36V 300W–500W electric / Demon 40cc Electric / Gas
9–12 Beginner–intermediate 36V 1000W electric / Hooligan 60cc Electric / Gas
12–15 Intermediate 48V 1000W–1800W electric / X1 110cc Electric / Gas
15+ Advanced / adult 60V 2000W+ electric / X3 125cc+ Electric / Gas

How to use the chart

Start with age, then adjust for experience and the child's size. A tall, confident 8-year-old who's ridden before may be ready for the next tier up; a cautious first-timer should start lower regardless of age. The single most important safety check is the foot test: seated on the bike, your child should be able to put the balls of both feet on the ground. If they're on tiptoes, the bike is too big.

Electric vs gas for kids

For young or first-time riders, electric is usually the better call. Electric MotoTec bikes have adjustable speed limiters, twist-and-go throttles with no clutch or shifting, near-silent operation, and almost no maintenance. Gas bikes offer longer ride time and a more traditional experience, which appeals to older kids and teens ready for more bike. Our parent's guide to electric dirt bikes for kids covers the tradeoffs in depth.

Safety basics

Whatever you choose, a helmet is non-negotiable, and gloves, long sleeves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes should be standard. Start new riders in a flat, open area and use the speed limiter to keep early rides slow. Adult supervision is essential for every rider in this age range.
