EcoFlow RIVER 3 vs RIVER 2: What's New in 2026?

Posted by LockTech & Gear on

EcoFlow's RIVER line is its compact, grab-and-go power station family — perfect for camping, road trips, and small backup needs. If you're deciding between the newer RIVER 3 and the RIVER 2, here's how they stack up.

LockTech & Gear is an authorized EcoFlow dealer — every station ships free with full warranty.

The quick take

The RIVER 3 is the refreshed generation, bringing EcoFlow's latest design and faster, quieter operation in an even more portable package. The RIVER 2 remains a capable, value-focused choice. For most new buyers the RIVER 3 (and its Plus and Max variants) is the pick; the RIVER 2 can be a smart buy if you find it at a good price.

Capacity and expandability

Both lines use long-life LFP (LiFePO4) batteries rated for thousands of cycles. The base RIVER units are designed for smaller loads and shorter runtimes, while the Plus and Max variants in each generation add capacity. If you expect to power more or run longer, step up to a Plus/Max model or look at the DELTA series instead.

Output and what they can run

Both deliver clean pure sine wave AC power suitable for sensitive electronics, with X-Boost technology that lets them run higher-wattage devices than their rated output would suggest. They're ideal for phones, laptops, lights, CPAP machines (without heated humidifier), small appliances, and camp gear. Neither is meant for large, high-draw appliances like AC units or electric heaters.

Charging

EcoFlow's hallmark fast AC charging features across the RIVER family — these units top up quickly from a wall outlet, with solar and car charging available too. The RIVER 3 generation continues that fast-charging focus in a compact, quiet form.

Which should you buy?

Choose the RIVER 3 (or RIVER 3 Plus/Max) for the newest design, compact portability, and EcoFlow's latest features — the best choice for most buyers. Consider the RIVER 2 if you want to save and find it discounted, and its capacity covers your needs. For bigger loads or home backup, jump to the DELTA line.
